Twin City Hospital to go Tobacco Free

Dennison—Twin City Hospital is going Tobacco-free and Smoke-free.

In order to promote good health practices among patients, visitors, and its associates, Twin City Hospital will be implementing a Tobacco free policy beginning March 1, of this year.

Smoking outside of entrances, or in cars in the parking lot, will no longer be tolerated. The use of all tobacco related products is included in the ban.

Twin City Hospital’s Director of Human Resources, Dawn Furniss, noted, “Twin City Hospital recognizes that tobacco use is one of the most preventable causes of death and disease in the United States.”  As a result, Twin City Hospital will provide a tobacco and smoke free environment by implementing this new policy effective on March 1, 2006.

Recognizing that the new policy won’t be easy for some patients and employees, Twin City Hospital has offered smoking cessation classes and free smoking cessation aids in order to help employees become smoke free.

Patients due to come into hospital will be advised of the new policy in advance and encouraged to seek help from their family doctor. Upon admission, patients will be informed of the policy, and options for becoming tobacco free will be discussed with each patient.

Signs have already been posted inside and around the hospital grounds informing visitors and staff of the new smoke free policy.
