Twin City Hospital’s Healthy Community Outreach Program (HCOP) is currently registering families with children in grades Kindergarten through fourth grade for Fit for Fun classes focusing on nutrition and fitness. Fit for Fun classes will begin Tuesday, April 15, 2008 from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at the Tuscarawas County YMCA’s Twin City Satellite located on Third Street at Dennison. Cost to register for the Fit for Fun classes is $10.00, paid prior to the first class. Parent/guardian participation in the class is required.
Fit for Fun is a 5 week, family program that uses the We Can! (Ways to Enhance Children's Activity & Nutrition) curriculum. Parents/Guardians participating in the classes will receive weekly lessons on how to promote healthy lifestyles to their children. Children participating in the classes will receive a short lesson similar to their parents’ lesson on an age appropriate level and will spend most of their time benefitting from a fun exercise activity. Participants will receive workbooks, kids’ cookbooks and will have chances to earn 3 month memberships and a 1 year membership to the Twin City YMCA.
Classes will be taught by licensed, registered dietitians from the Tuscarawas County Health Department and the Tuscarawas County OSU Extension Office. One class will be taught by Dr. Tim McKnight, Board Certified Family Practitioner. All exercise activity sessions will be taught by a fitness instructor from the Twin City YMCA.
Fit for Fun is made possible by a grant from the Canton Regional Area Health Education Center.
